Matthew holds an Honours degree in Sport and Education and a Post Graduate Certificate in Physical Education.
Matthew comes from a rugby background. He has represented Wales at various age group levels. His senior rugby career saw him spend 4 seasons at Llanelli RFC during which he was a member of the famous 2005 cup winning side. He also spent 2 seasons captaining Swansea RFC and has recently retired due to injury, family and work commitments. This has allowed him to dedicate more time to becoming a CrossFit trainer.
Matthew prides himself on teaching his clients proper mechanics and is relentless when it comes to mastering the basics.
“The reward I get from imparting the knowledge I have learned from other trainers and my own experience makes my work something I really look forward to. I am proud to be part of a community that helps each member attain their goals”

He has been training personally using the CrossFit method for the past 3 years and the gains and enjoyment that he has achieved in that time prompted him to launch CrossFit Velocity with fellow trainer and friend Matthew.
Nick’s main sporting interests other than CrossFit lie within rugby and golf (6 handicap). He received Wales rugby caps at Under 18 and Student level and currently plays for Narberth RFC in WRU Division 1 West. Previous clubs played for include: Dunvant RFC, Neath RFC and Llanelli RFC
Nick firmly believes in teaching consistency of skills and acknowledges the CrossFit mantra of “leave your ego at the door” as being the key to achieving fitness gains in the long term.

Kelly has trained with the CrossFit method for the last 2 years and seen tremendous results. She has competed in 2 CrossFit affiliate games as an individual and also as part of a team. Kelly completed her CrossFit Level 1 Trainers Course in July 2010 and is currently working towards becoming a trainer at CrossFit Velocity. If Kelly brings the same focus to her coaching as she does to her workouts she is going to make a great coach!

Achievements

Canadian Triathlon Association Hall of Fame Athlete 2005

Silver Medal 1991 Triathlon World Championships

Terri comes from an endurance sport background and represented Canada internationally in the sport of triathlon from 1989-1993. She competed in all distances from sprint through Ironman. Her first love has always been running with personal best of 16:45 in the 5km and 35:08 10km. Years of over-distance and over-training lead to a series of injuries which culminated in chronic hamstring tendonopathy. Late in 2008 she was forced to stop running. An obsession with long distance training, rather than leading to improved fitness had the exact opposite effect.

“Finding CrossFit in 2009 has literally changed my life. CrossFit’s broad focus on functional movement is helping me to rebuild a much stronger foundation. I no longer have the constant hamstring/lower back pain I had as a runner. I feel fitter now than I did whilst racing. I have learned that many of the basic movements of CrossFit which I previously thought would cause me injury, such as dead lifts and squats have helped to improve my almost non-existent flexibility. I have reprogrammed my chronic cardio mindset and am a convert to CrossFit Endurance, an endurance sports training programme which blends the fundamentals of CrossFit strength training along with the premise that power and speed are critical to success in endurance sport.

Most of all I have found a fun way to stay fit. The camaraderie of Crossfit is second to none. More than a fitness programme, Crossfit is a lifestyle which incidentally leads to fitter, more balanced individuals. Crossfit is for everyone and at Crossfit Velocity all are treated the same from the beginner to the elite athlete.”

Rhoddy Davies

Intern

CF-L1 Trainer

Rhoddy comes from a rugby playing background. He received his Welsh Districts cap playing against the German National side in 2007. During his time in rugby he suffered a bad knee injury, which he describes as the best and worst day in his sporting life; bad in the fact that he couldn’t play rugby for 13 months, but good in that during his rehabilitation he found CrossFit. Crossfit training during his rehabilitation allowed him to come back to the rugby field stronger, fitter, leaner, and healthier. It changed his life forever.

After retiring from rugby in 2010, Rhoddy’s training and fitness regime is now fully dedicated to Crossfit. He completed his CrossFit Level 1 Trainers Course in February 2011 and will complete his Crossfit Gymnastic Certification in March 2011 and the Crossfit Olympic Weightlifting Certification in July 2011. Rhoddy regular competes in multi terrain off road running events. The more grueling the terrain the better!
